The drug has to be taken with food to avoid stomach upsets. Always follow what your doctor says while taking Ponstel.

Before Ponstel is prescribed for your pains, tell your doctor about all your health conditions. Tell him if you have any allergies to any particular food, medicine or to any substance, including the contents in Ponstel.

Be frank to inform the doctor if you have a history of high blood pressure, blood disorders, clotting disorders, heart or liver problems, diabetes, bowel problems, swelling, asthma, mouth inflammation and nasal polyps.

Ponstel is dangerous for the fetus. Therefore, the drug has to be avoided by pregnant women and by those who hope to get conceived. The drug is also traced in breast milk. So avoid breast-feeding while you are on Ponstel medication. Elderly people are only prescribed a low dosage as they are more sensitive to the side effects of the drug. Ponstel is not prescribed for children below 14 years of age.

Your doctor will not prescribe the drug if you have liver or kidney problems, stomach ulcers and inflammation. The drug should also be avoided if you have undergone a bypass surgery recently.

You can come across serious bleeding and stomach ulcers while taking Ponstel. These may worsen if the drug is taken for a prolonged period and if you take high doses. Cigarettes and alcohol can add to the side effects.
