Drug Uses
Indocin is prescribed for treating moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and osteoarthritis.

How Taken
Indocin should be taken as per your doctor’s direction. Take the drug with food to avoid stomach upset. Indocin should be taken with a full glass of water.

Warnings/Precautions
Before Indocin is prescribed, you have to tell your doctor about all your medical conditions. Tell your doctor if you have allergies to any medicine, food or to any substance, including the ingredients of Inducin.

Do not hide from your doctor if you have a history of diabetes, kidney o liver problems, stomach or bowel problems, swelling, mental problems like depression, seizures, asthma, Parkinson disease, clotting disorder, blood cell problems, heart problems and high blood pressure.

Tell your doctor if you have low blood sodium levels, dehydration and high potassium levels in blood. Be frank if you have the habit of drinking alcohol or if you have a history of alcohol abuse.

Indocin is not prescribed for pregnant women and those who hope to get pregnant as the drug can cause harm to the unborn babe. As Indocin is found in breast milk, women should not go for breast-feeding when they are on Indocin medication.

Always tell your doctor about the other medications that you are taking, as some medicines are known to interact with Indocin.

The drug should be avoided if you are allergic to aspirin or an NSAID. The doctors normally do not prescribe the drug if you have had a bypass surgery recently.  

Stomach ulcers and bleeding are some of the common side effects that come with Inducin. The risk of these side effects increases if the drug is taken for a long period or if it is taken in high doses or if you smoke and drink alcohol in excess.

If you come across pain in the stomach or the back, black or tarry stools and vomits looking like blood or coffee grounds, unusual weight gain and swelling, consult your doctor immediately.

Indocin is also known to interfere with certain lab tests. Therefore, inform the lab technician and the doctor that you are on Inducin medication before any lab test is conducted.

Doctors usually prescribe a low dosage for elderly people as they are at high risk to the side effects. The drug is not prescribed for children below 15 years.

Missed Dose
There is nothing to worry if a dosed is missed. You can take it as soon as you remember it. But if it is almost time for your regular dosage, skip the missed one. Never take doses at the same time.

Overdose
Dizziness, decreased urination, seizures, drowsiness, headache, nausea, troubled breathing, unusual bleeding and vomits looking like coffee grounds are some of the symptoms of over dosage. If you suspect an over dose, seek immediate medical attention.

More Information
Indocin causes dizziness. This can worsen if the drug is mixed with alcohol or if taken with other medicines. Do not drive or perform any hard task until you know how the drug reacts. The drug should only be used for whom it has been prescribed; do not share the drug with others.
