Ponstel is used for treating menstrual pain and also used for a short period for mild to moderate pain.
How Taken
Always take the drug as prescribed by your doctor. You can take the drug with food to avoid any stomach upset.
Warnings/Precautions
It is always better to inform your doctor if you are allergic to any food, medicine, aspirin, NSAID or to any substance, including the ingredients in Ponstel.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of blood disorders, high blood pressure, clotting problems, heart problems, liver problems, diabetes, stomach or bowel problems, swelling, nasal polyps, asthma and mouth inflammation.
Ponstel should not be used by pregnant women and by those whop hope to get pregnant as the drug is known to cause harm to the unborn babe. As the drug is excreted into breast milk, breast feeding mothers should not feed their babes while taking the drug.
Certain medicines are known to interact with Ponstel. Therefore you have to inform your doctor about all the medications that you are taking before the doctor prescribes the drug for you.
The drug should not be used if you had a bypass surgery recently, kidney problems inflammation and ulcers. When Ponstel is used, there is a possibility of serious stomach ulcers and bleeding. These effects can worsen if the drug is taken for a long period or if taken in high doses. Smoking and excessive drinking also adds to the side effects. Do not hesitate to contact your doctor if you experience unusual weight gain, black and tarry stools, back pain, stomach pain and vomits looking like coffee grounds.
It has been seen that the drug may interfere with lab tests. Before you go for any lab test, inform the lab technician or your doctor that you are on Ponstel medication.
Doctors usually prescribe a low dosage to elderly persons as they are more sensitive to the drug. Ponstel is not normally prescribed for children below 14 years of age.
Missed Dose
There is nothing to worry if a dose is missed. Take it as soon as you remember it. But if almost time for the next dosage, leave the missed one. Never take two doses at the same time.
Overdose
Dizziness, decreased urination, seizures, nausea, stomach pain, troubled breathing, unusual bleeding and vomits that look like coffee grounds are some of the symptoms of Ponstel over dosage. If you suspect an over dose, do not delay in seeking medical help.

Ponstel causes dizziness. These can worsen if the drug is taken along with other medicines and if mixed with alcohol. It is recommended not to drive or perform any hard task after taking the drug.
